National Honor Society Changes for the 2020/2021 school year only.
Addendum to the 2020/2021 school year for current NHS members and 20/21 applicants:
Due to COVID 19 and the limitations that have been placed on community service activities as well as leadership opportunities, NHS will have following temporary amendment:
Current members and this year’s applicants will have the service learning hours waived for the 20/21 school year. Due to social distancing necessities and public safety concerns, students may not have access to the usual avenues of community service, and students may choose to limit their exposure in order to protect themselves and others from Covid 19 infection.
Applicants for this cycle will have the leadership requirement waived for the 20/21 school year. Because of the limitations on extracurricular activities due to Covid 19 safety measures, students may not have the usual opportunities to demonstrate leadership capabilities.
Applications will be restricted to Juniors and Seniors for the 20/21 school year. MTZ National Honor Society has traditionally been the only area school offering application opportunities to sophomores. Current potential sophomore applicants should not be hindered in their ability to demonstrate leadership and complete service learning activities leading up to the 21/22 NHS application cycle. There is every reason to believe that those students will be able to meet the traditional requirements for membership in the MTZ Chapter of NHS during that cycle.
